Producer: Bedazzle Inclusive Productions; Inclusivity Films

Writer: Sarah Leigh (screenplay) adapted from the stage play I'm Non Typical, Typical collated by Matthew Hunt / BiT and told from lived experience.

Budget: £20,000

Shooting Location: Saffron Walden, Essex / Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK

Scheduled for: Q1 2023

About: This short film was adapted from the successful Bedazzle Inclusive Theatre show I'm Non-Typical, Typical which premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (2019). TYPICAL? celebrates authentic representation and challenges stigmatising beliefs and misplaced societal narratives around neurodivergence and disability. Our shoot was accessible with 90% on screen and 50% off screen identifying as d/Deaf, disabled & neurodivergent. We used access riders across for everyone as well as deciding to shoot across a week to ensure shorter days for better more inclusive working practices.

Screenplay selections and awards:

Screenplay of the month by Changing Face International Film Festival

  • Selected for the Florida Shorts Festival 2022

  • Judged as a semi-finalist at the New York International Women Festival

  • Selected for the Courage Film Festival 2022

As well as producing TYPICAL? Bedazzle Inclusive Productions also embedded an innovative supportive work experience programme into the shoot enabling young people identifying as d/Deaf, disabled and neurodivergent to access vital on set experiences and training, including professional IMDB credits for some roles.
